Clinical Dental Technology
Entry Requirements:
Applicants must possess a degree in Dental Technology or equivalent qualification. Entry to training in clinical dental technology would normally follow, as a minimum, a three year period of professional experience in a dental laboratory. Applicants must have evidence of satisfactory seroconversion for protection against Hepatitis B. New regulations require testing for Hepatitis C for new entrants to the HSE. Applicants will also be required to undergo Garda (Police) Vetting.
Duration
The course runs over 18 months, part-time leading to the award of a Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Dental Technology.

About the programme
Purpose
This programme has been designed to enable postgraduate dental technicians, working in general dental services, the community and hospital dental services, to safely and effectively provide intraoral prostheses for patients to the highest international standards.
Description
The course will extend over 18 months and consist of formal didactic components, supervised clinical practice, directed private study, written assignments, oral presentations and formative and summative assessments. Candidates for the course have to attend 3 days per week (Tuesday – Thursday). The course is divided into 8 modules, each having specific aims and learning outcomes. There are elements of direct contact teaching, self-directed learning, clinical practice, clinical competence and associated assignments for each module.
Format & assessment
Assessment is by written and oral work, clinical attachments and portfolio of work.
