Overview of Research in the Dublin Dental University Hospital

The Dublin Dental University Hospital (DDUH) is strongly committed to improving health, in particular oral health, in Ireland through research by furthering our knowledge and understanding of Dentistry and Oral Biology. Research is one of the three core activities of the DDUH and our commitment to excellence in research and research-led teaching is evident in the high quality and quantity of research output in recent years made possible by strategic investment in infrastructure and staff. Our research is recognized internationally and many DDUH staff members are active in the international research arena through publishing in high impact journals, presenting and chairing at international conferences and through membership of editorial boards. Our vision for the future is to continue to be the leading research-led Dental School in Ireland and to continue to produce research with potential to enhance oral health and support undergraduate and postgraduate training.

There are two over-arching research programmes recognized and supported by the DDUH.

These are:

  1. Clinical and Translational Dentistry
  2. Basic and Applied Oral Biosciences

These two programmes are currently comprised of a total of seven priority thematic research areas.
