The Hospital is closed from Friday 22 December 2023 to Tuesday 2 January 2024 for routine services.

Friday 22 December 2023 from 3.00pm to Tuesday 26 December 2023 from 3.00pm and

Friday 29 December 2023 from 3.00pm to Monday 1 January 2024 from 3.00pm

During these dates and times, we will provide a limited emergency service.  The times for this service are from 9.00am to 10.00pm for severe dental emergencies only.  This is NOT a walk-in service and appointments are required.

What services are provided?

This service is limited to pain relief for people who have had a dental accident or who require emergency treatment to deal with:

  • Bleeding / Haemorrhage

  • Serious infection

  • Visible swelling in or around the mouth

  • Severe pain

  • Injuries as a result of a recent trauma / accident

How to contact this service

This service is managed by telephoning 01 612 7200. You will need to provide a contact number for the dentist on duty to contact you via our answering service.  It can take up to 2 hours for your call to be returned. Please ensure you are available to take the return call. A dentist will telephone you and advise you as to what to do next.

Please do not present to the Hospital facility as this service is managed by appointment only.  This service may also be limited to advice by telephone only.

If you have a severe dental emergency outside these hours, you should contact your nearest general hospital.

Wednesday 27 December, Thursday 28 December and Friday 29 December 2023

During these dates we will have a limited onsite service for emergencies only, between 8.45am and 3.00pm.

However, capacity is limited and priority is given to severe dental emergencies. If you are seeking this service, it is recommended that you attend no later than 12:30pm on any day.

As above, if you have a severe dental emergency outside of these hours you can contact our emergency phone service on 01 612 7200. Numbers are limited and are for severe emergencies only.

When you present a dentist will determine whether your dental problem is appropriate for treatment by our Accident and Emergency team. Treatment is at the discretion of the screening dentist on duty.

If you are accepted for emergency care, the Accident and Emergency team will do their best to treat you.  The treatment may be just temporary – sufficient to relieve the pain and prevent serious damage until you can attend your own Dentist or your HSE Dentist.

Patients are advised to contact their own Dentist or Health Services Executive (HSE) Dentist for other dental services in the first instance.

Do I have to pay for this service?

Fees do apply for these services unless you hold an HSE medical card. You must bring your medical card with you when you present. Charge apply of €70 for the walk-in service and €100 for the phone / appointment service.
