Christmas & New Year Accident and Emergency Services 2025
The hospital is closed from Wednesday 24 December 2025 to Thursday 1 January 2026 inclusive for routine services.
On Wednesday 24, Monday 29, Tuesday 30 and Wednesday 31 December 2025, the Hospital has a limited service for emergencies only, between 8.45 and 3pm.
However, capacity is limited and priority is given to severe dental emergencies. If you are seeking this service, it is recommended that you attend no later than 12:30pm.
What services are provided?
The Accident and Emergency service is limited to pain relief for people who have had a dental accident or who require emergency treatment to deal with:
- Bleeding / Haemorrhage
- Serious infection
- Visible swelling in or around the mouth
- Injuries as a result of a recent trauma / accident
When you present a dentist will determine whether your dental problem is appropriate for treatment by our Accident and Emergency team. Treatment is at the discretion of the screening dentist on duty.
If you are accepted for emergency care, the Accident and Emergency team will do their best to treat you. The treatment may be just temporary – sufficient to relieve the pain and prevent serious damage until you can attend your own Dentist or your HSE Dentist.
Patients are advised to contact their own Dentist or Health Services Executive (HSE) Dentist for other dental services in the first instance.
Do I have to pay for this service?
A charge of €100 applies unless you hold a valid HSE medical card. You must bring your medical card with you when you present.
On Thursday 25, Friday 26, Saturday 27, Sunday 28 December 2025 and Thursday 1 January 2026:
If you have a severe dental emergency outside of these hours you can contact our emergency phone service on 01 6127200. Numbers are limited and are for severe emergencies only. As above, a limited emergency service will be provided during these periods. This service operates from 9am to 10pm for severe dental emergencies only.
