The Dental Management of the Head & Neck Cancer Patient
The Odontology Section of The Royal Academy of Medicine in Ireland would like to thank all speakers and attendees of our first event of this academic year on Monday 15th November 2021 on The Dental Management of the Head & Neck Cancer Patient. Turn-out to this synchronous online event was excellent, with audience members attending from all across Ireland and attendance transcending traditional medical/dental barriers. The speakers broadly covered the dental journey of the head & neck cancer patient from initial presentation right through to interim and definitive rehabilitation. Biographies
Dr Ahmed Kahatab
BDentSc BA DipPCD (RCSI) MFD(RCSI)
Ahmed graduated from Trinity College Dublin in 2017. He subsequently spent two further years in the Dublin Dental University Hospital as a house officer broadening his knowledge base and improving his skills in special care dentistry as well as publishing literature and partaking in quality improvement projects. He then moved into a family practice in the heart of Bray Co. Wicklow where he spent a couple of years providing a wide range of treatments. Ahmed enjoys caring for children and people with physical or intellectual disabilities. He subsequently worked in Children’s Health Ireland Crumlin and currently works in St. James’s Hospital where he treats cardiology, cleft lip and/or palate and head and neck cancer patients. Ahmed currently sits on the Quality and Patient Safety and the CPD committees of the Irish Dental Association and is President of the Irish Society for Disability and Oral Health.
Dr David McReynolds

Assistant Professor in Restorative Dentistry
Practice Limited to Prosthodontics and Implant Dentistry
David graduated from the clinical doctoral prosthodontics programme in Trinity College Dublin in 2018 with the Dean’s Prize for academic performance. He is an Assistant Professor in Restorative Dentistry at Dublin Dental University Hospital and he maintains a part-time position in private interdisciplinary practice at Number 16 Periodontics, Booterstown. David sits on the editorial board of the Journal of the Irish Dental Association, he is an Associate Editor of the Irish Journal of Medical Sciences and he is the Secretary of Odontology for the Royal Academy of Medicine in Ireland. David is known for taking an uncompromising approach towards definitive and comprehensive dental reconstruction.
Dr Advan Moorthy
BA BDentSc MFDS RCPS (Glasg) DChDent (Pros)
Practice Limited to Prosthodontics and Implant Dentistry
Dr. Moorthy is a prosthodontist. He graduated with honours as a dental surgeon from Trinity College Dublin in 2013. Upon graduation, Dr. Moorthy worked in the Dublin Dental University Hospital as a junior and senior house officer. Dr. Moorthy completed his membership examinations for the Faculty of Dentistry at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons in Glasgow as well as passing the National Dental Examining Board of Canada licensing exams. Dr. Moorthy then spent two years working in a busy rural private practice in Newfoundland, Canada.
In July 2017, Dr. Moorthy returned to his hometown of Dublin and undertook a three-year full-time clinical doctorate and specialty training in Prosthodontics at the Dublin Dental University Hospital in Trinity College Dublin. He completed his graduate prosthodontics training in 2020 with first class honours. He provides treatments for all areas of fixed, removable and implant prosthodontics with a particular interest in digital dentistry, digital smile design and conventional/ implant supported dentures.
