Professor Derek Sullivan

Professor Derek Sullivan is Professor in Microbiology and the Director of Teaching and Learning in the School of Dental Science, Trinity College Dublin and the Dublin Dental University Hospital. Derek graduated with a degree in Natural Sciences from Trinity College Dublin and a PhD from the University of Newcastle. He joined the School and Hospital as a postdoctoral researcher in 1991 and his major research interest is the molecular analysis of how Candida yeast species cause disease in humans.

Derek served as the Associate Dean of Research in Trinity College (2012-14) and has been Head of Division and Director of Research in the School and Hospital. He has served on the editorial boards of several journals and has published widely in the field of medical mycology. In 2011 Derek was a founder member and the first general secretary of the Irish Fungal Society.
